Erneuerbare Energien (im Englischen Renewable Energy), auch als erneuerbare Energieformen bezeichnet, erhält in Zeiten der Erderwärmung, des Klimawandels und der Digitalisierung immer mehr Bedeutung. Die Nutzung von regenerativen Quellen zur Stromerzeugung und Stromspeicherung wird somit wichtiger. Windenergie und Solarenergie sind umweltschonend. Solarenergie kann durch Photovoltaikanlagen oder Solarthermieanlagen genutzt werden. Bei der Umwandlung von Solarenergie in Solarstrom oder Wärme entsteht kein Ruß, Feinstaub oder CO2. Wegen der stark gesunkenen Systemkosten für Photovoltaikanlagen sind gute Renditen möglich. Das gilt auch für PV-Anlagen mit einem geringen Eigenverbrauch. Auch der Anteil der Energiegewinnung aus Windkraft ist in den letzten Jahren stark gestiegen. Windenergieanlagen werden sowohl onshore als auch offshore errichtet. Nicht nur die Versorgung von Haushalten oder Industrieparks, sondern auch von Stromtankstellen für elektrische Kraftfahrzeuge, kann mit Hilfe von regenerativer Energie realisiert werden. Die Elektromobilität (auch E-Mobilität oder englisch E-Mobility) ist ein topaktuelles Thema. Elektroautos sind keine Seltenheit mehr und Ladeinfrastruktur und Ladestationen werden ständig weiterentwickelt. Langfristig wird der Einsatz von erneuerbaren Energien in allen Sektoren und im Smart Grid zu finden sein. High energy costs are a big challenge for many manufacturing companies. Reducing energy costs is therefore essential for staying competitive in the future. One possibility is peak shaving - the reduction of expensive peak loads. The power consumption from the public energy grid is limited to the lowest possible maximum level and the peak loads are covered by other energy sources. DC grids make #peakshaving very easy as photovoltaic systems and energy storage systems already run on DC, thus, enhancing an integration into #DCMicrogrids. The generated power can therefore be stored and fed into the grid at peak load times. By reducing peak loads and the maximum power demand from the public grid, energy costs are efficiently reduced.

In addition to global climate goals such as CO2 neutrality and decarbonization, the responsible use of raw materials is also a declared goal for a more sustainable future. Compared to AC networks, the use of DC grids in industry also helps to save resources, in addition to an improved energy efficiency. Compared to alternating current, significantly reduced cable cross-sections are required for the energy transmission with direct current. In addition to this copper saving, the electrical components in DC networks are also smaller because the rectification circuits are not needed. DC microgrids therefore do not only score in terms of their energy balance, but also regarding copper use and material costs. #Dcmicrogrid #DCgrid
